Pigment insoluble discrete dye particles impart colour by selectively absorbing and scattering light. Because they remain as discrete particles rather than dissolving, achieving a stable and uniform dispersion is essential for obtaining consistent optical and mechanical properties.
Pigment dispersions are the colours used in the colouration of coatings, inks, plastics, adhesives, and other coloured materials. Although pigments are responsible for providing colour, opacity, attractiveness and identity, they cannot perform effectively unless they are properly dispersed within the application medium.
Well-dispersed pigments provide consistent colour, colour strength, gloss, improved durability and stable processing performance. Conversely, poor dispersion can result in defects such as inconsistent shade, reduced hiding power, sedimentation, poor weather resistance, and surface imperfections.
